The Prices for Australian Hard Coking Coal (HCC) Peaks Down, CFR India dropped in September 2025, and the market showed evidence of oversupply and weak demand. The Coking Coal, HCC Peaks Down, CFR India was assessed at around $199 per tonne, and remained soft into September. The CFR India prices for Australian HCC ranged between $175 $199 per tonne due to ample supply and/or caution from Indian steel mills in any buying. In the first week of September, prices for the premium Australian coking coal (PLV HCC) delivered to CFR India fell below $200 a tonne (the first time in two years) due to weak demand in China and India for coking coal and a larger pool of global coal supply available. There were occasional sporadic instances of buying interest or restocking; however, market fundamentals were enough in control of the price to keep it range-bound and soft. Indian steel mills were cautious amidst the government cap on coal imports and sufficient availability of domestic coal supply, hindering upward momentum on pricing.
