On December 1, 2025, the price of melting scrap from ship breaking yards in Alang was ₹31300 per tonne. This represents an increase of ₹200 per tonne on a day-over-day basis and a ₹ 1,500 per tonne increase since last month. Prices remained depressed throughout the early part of November due to low demand from steel mills, slow purchasing by the mills, and sluggish sales of both semi-finished and finished products.

By early December, however, moderate demand and increased purchasing activity, mainly from Bhavnagar-based steel mills, helped create an environment for increased supplier offers (high demand for any product causes increased prices) and ultimately pushed prices up.

Outlook:

Looking ahead, the outlook is cautiously optimistic, with sentiment improving; however, further gains will depend on sustained mill demand, finished-steel price trends, and broader economic activity.
